Easy roast garlic butter flatbreads

These 2 ingredient flatbreads are delicious served with a rich roasted garlic butter. Use these flatbreads like a wrap, or serve them with an assortment of dips.

We’ve all seen the garlic butter TikTok trend, right? Where people roast a whole bulb of garlic and smash it into butter? Well, I tried it last night for the first time, and I can see why it went so viral. However, I decided to put a spin on things and use the garlic butter on my homemade flatbreads and, all I can say is that it was a very, very good idea.

Better yet, the flatbreads only have 2 main ingredients: flour and water. I’ve used both self-raising and plain flour for this recipe before and didn’t see a major difference, which means that this recipe is perfect for anyone with a limited baking cupboard.

These flatbreads have no rising or proving time, meraning that as soon as you need the dough you can cook it! If you’ve forgotten to buy wraps or pitta for your dinner, these are the perfect substitute.

But what do you eat these with? To be honest, the list is unlimited. You could use these like we did, as wraps, or you could eat them with dips like hummus and tsatsiki. You could even use this instead of a naan bread!

The garlic butter is optional in this recipe, because it is what makes this recipe so long. But, if you really want to treat yourself, it is a necessity.

Anyway, here’s the recipe. Try it for yourself, go and watch my reel or TikTok and let me know what you think!

How to make garlic butter flatbreads

Flatbread recipe:

  1. Pour 200g of flour into a large bowl.
  2. Add the salt and then slowly add the water, mixing well as you add until there is a dough. If it is too wet, add more flour and if it is too dry, add more water.
  3. Oil a chopping board or a clean cooking surface, and pour the dough onto the surface. Cover your hands in oil if you want to stop the dough from sticking to your hands. Knead for around five minutes or until you have a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough up into four balls. Using an oiled rolling pin, gently roll the dough out till it is a thin flatbread.
  5. Heat a little oil in a large frying pan on a medium high heat. Once hot, add the flatbread dough. Cook for 2 minutes on each side or until both sides are starting to brown and puff up slightly.
  6. Serve with garlic butter or your favourite dips.

How to make roasted garlic butter:

  1. Cut the top of a garlic bulb off and then place the garlic in foil. Cover in a little oil, season with salt and wrap up in the foil. Heat the oven to 180 degrees C and place the garlic in the oven. Roast for around 45 mins or until the garlic is brown and soft.
  2. While you are waiting, cut 50g of butter (or vegan alternative) and place in a bowl. Add chopped parsley, salt, pepper and any other herbs and spices you like.
  3. Once the garlic is done, let it cool. Once it is cold enough to touch, squeeze out the garlic cloves into the bowl of butter. If it has been roasted properly, they should come out easy.
  4. Use a fork to mash the garlic into the butter.
  5. Serve!

Tips: We used this flatbread recipe for a really sexy vegetarian wrap: roasted cauliflower and red peppers, pickled onions, guacamole and lime and chipotle mayo.

If you don’t have a rolling pin, a wine bottle works just as well!
